what i could understand from the reading, was that at first, Achille did not want to go to battle because he is still upset with Amomnon. However, they killed one of his good friend, so he decided to go to battle.
In the beginning of Book 22, Hector is the only Trojan standing outside of the wall waiting for Achilles to come so they can fight. Achilles left the battle but came back in when Hector killed his friend, Patroclus. He wanted revenge. Priam and Hecuba were praying to Hector to stop standing outside of the wall and have pity on his life. They know that Achilles is more powerful than he is, and they do not want their son to die. Hector ignores their prayer and continues to wait for Achilles. While standing there, Hector thinks about the options he has (I did not really understand that part). When Achilles gets closer, Hector runs away and they run through out the town. Athena comes to the aid of Achilles and convinces Hector to fight. At the end of pg. 150, it mentions something involving Athena and Hector. I didn't understand that part at all. If someone can clarify that for me, it would be great?
What I understood from the story was that Achilles only went to war to fight against Hector because Hector killed one of his good friends. At first Achilles didn’t want to go because he was mad at Agamemnon, for everything that he did. But when Hector killed his friend he wanted revenge. Priam and Hecuba didn’t want Hector to fight because they knew he was going to loss against Achilles because he is more powerful.
From what I read Hector regreted his decision of not surrending to late and had to face the consequences. He knew that Alexandors would have him killed if he didnt do anything to stop Achilles. Achilles in this part of the Iliad looks like the bad guy because it seems like he has no sympathy for Hector knowing that he is the only one outside the wall and that no one is going to come and save him.
When we begin to read Book 22, it tells us how Archilles is angered because Apollo killed his best friend Patroclus. Now he comes back for revenge and wants to defeat the trojans Hector, and cause Apollo misery. Priam knows that HEctor wont win and tries to advise him to leave that it is not worth it but he does not listen. His mother was in tears hoping he would not keep waiting for Archilles and get killed. She tries to tell him that Archille has no pity to not fight this way(I believe thats what she meant). But Hector stood firm. Then once Archilles is close they begin to run as Lydia said. On the last page we had to read Hector is giving thanks to his brother Deiphobus and telling them all that even though they wanted him to stop fighting he couldn't. He wants to keep fighting and stand up for his beliefs ?
Nelly that last sentince is not a question..take the "?" off. So, Hector is the last trojan outside of the wall, and is feeling rather humiliated about giving unintelligent orders so does not join the others. Then he is confronted by Achilles and trys to negotiate his way out of this one and unfortunately Achilles is too keen for him and chases him. And then the god apeared as Deiphobus, who hector trusts, and then convinces him to stop running from Achilles. After that, I did not really comprehend much. but thats what i understood.
In book 22 Achilles is a mad man running after poor Hector who at this point I believe to be an idiot. Hector should of swallowed his pride and gone behind the walls because he knows he cant defeat Achilles. Achilles is half god and has won favor with Hera. That alone tells you Hector is going to not win. The Gods in this book have interfered to much and have not let man decide what should be done.
i think that its very messed up that Achilles couldnt give Hector a proper burial.I understand that he needed to protect his honor but realy did he have to drag hectors body around. Not only that he let the birds and dogs peck at it.Then his people stabbed the body .Achilles was a beast.
Everybody basically said the beginning of book 22 of the epic: Hector stays outside the walls of Troy, after(purposely?) killing Achilles' best friend Patroclus. Achilles, still furious and mourning his friend's death, approaches him and they begin to chase eachother. My favorite part is when the gods decide to intervene once again. This time, Zeus wants to save Hector from Achilles, but Athena convinces him to let Achilles do his job. Then Athena disguises herself as one of Hectors friends and tells Hector that them two can defeat Achilles. Hector turns back to fight Achilles, and the friend (Athena) disappears. In the end, Achilles wins.... In book 24, Achilles is still angry after killing Hector. He refuses to return his body to the Trojans, which I'm guessing is a really bad thing for them. He drags Hector's body around Patroclus' burial site. King Priam goes to Achilles' tent, with the protection of the gods, and begs for his son's body. He eventually gets the body back and brings it into Troy.
Ummm can we watch a movie of this in class...?! :)
In the beginning, Hector refused to hide behind the gate but then when it was time to attack, he ran away from Achilles who had returned to battle to venge the death of his friends. The ran around the town three times, Achilles chasing Hector, before they stopped. Zeus and the other gods debated if they should intervene or not. Athena disguises herself as Deiphobus and convinces him to fight Achilles. I'm not completely sure, but I understood that Athena and the Gods decide to help Achilles because Hector is mortal and he is destined to die. We stop there.
Ffrom what I concurred after finishing the reading Achilles was absurdly upset about the killing of one of his closest companions Patroclus. Then he found himself chasing Hector outside the walls of troy. then the gods decide to stick there noses in once again and and save the wimpy Hector from an Achilles beating. Then the devilish Athena disguises herself as his comm-rad to pretend to fight hector, but she abandons him to fight Achilles alone where he defeats and kills him.
In the reading the Trojan leader Hector proposes to battle with Achilles. His parents try to expostulate his decision because he is much weaker than Achilles and they fear he will get killed. Hector refuses to listen to them.
In the second reading, I was confused with what happened. From what I understood, Zeus had been debating whether or not he should help Achilles, and Athena had said he is half mortal don't save him. Was she talking about Hector or Achilles? And if she was talking about Hector, why did she offer him help in defeating Achilles in the form of his brother? Was it a trap? And even though Thetis asked Zeus for help, why would Zeus consider helping Achilles if it is clear he is much stronger than Hector?
The reading starts off with a brief introduction. Agamemnon admits that he was wrong towards Achilles. Agamemnon asks him to go back to battle and even offers him gifts, but Achilles refuses. Achilles friend Patroclus convinces him to battle. Hector and Achilles plan on fighting. Hector's parents both tell him not to fight Achilles because he is stronger; therefore Hector would die. Zeus thinks about wehter or not to save Hector or not. Athena says no because he is mortal. Achilles chases Hector around. hector is not afraid of him anymore. Athena gives Hector advice but in the form of his brother.
Before reading aboutbook 22we learned that Achilles is no longer fighting in the Greek side with Agamemnon. Hector the Trojan leader killed Achilles best friend Patroclus in battle, this anger Achilles and filled him with a desire for revenge. In book 22 of the Iliad Achilles wants to kill Hectorfor what he did to his friend. Hector is waiting to fight him but his parents king Priam and Queen Hecuba interven and tell him that Achilles could kill him because he by far way more powerfull, and so he could kill Hector. Zeus wants to defend Hector but Athena does not allowed him to. She pretends to be his brother Deiphobus and tells him he aka "Athena" will fight with him in battle...and so he fights Achilles
In the reading, Achilles's closest friend, Patroclus, is killed by the Trojans and when Achilles hears about this he is furious. He decides to get involved with the battle and begins taking down Trojans with no mercy. Achilles then went after Prince Hector who was responsible for the death of Patroclus. Hector refuses when his parents tell him to go back behind the walls of the city, but then when Achilles comes running after him, he runs away. Then the goddess Athena decides to intervene in the chase by telling Achilles to stop chasing Hector. She then takes the form of Hector's closest brother, Deiphobus, and tells him to stop running and face Achilles. So then the one on one battle between the princes begins.
"idk if this is right?" (ndhs student, all his/her life) what i could comprehend was that Achilles only went to war to fight against Hector because Hector killed one of his good friends. At first Achilles didn’t want to go because he was mad at Agamemnon, But when Hector killed his friend he wanted to get him back. kill him with his dager put it into his heart as all the blood drips onto his hands and twist is as if it were a killshot untill he dies and enjoy every moment.
In the movie i like when achilles drags his body through the sand on his chariot. lol "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Glly5JA5h0" watched it 296,032 times
In the beginning of the reading Achilles had left the war. He decides to re-enter the war when his friend Patroclus is killed by the Trojans. He goes after Prince Hector because he is the one responsible. When Achilles goes after Hector I think that Apollo makes him change his route. On the mean time Hector is waiting for Achilles outside of the walls while everyone is inside. Hecuba and Priam come talk to him and tell him not to fight Achilles beacuse he is stronger than him adn could kill him. But he decides not to listen and stays where he is. When Achilles comes closer he runs away inside the walls. Athena appears to Achilles telling him to stop chasing Hector. Then she comes to Hector as his brother Deiphobus telling him to stop running away and to face Achilles. I don't know what Athena's problem is but I think she's evil. Does she want Hector to die?? So the battle between Achilles and Hector starts
In the prologue ,of 'Book 22: Desolation Before Troy,' Agamemnon apologizes to Achilles but he refuses his gifts- showing his prides once again- and decides not the return to battle. Then Patroclus gains permission from Achilles to rejoin the fighting. Hector kills Achilles' best friend-Patroclus- which makes him return to battle.
Achilles is going to kill Hector, in order to avenge his best friend. On his way towards him, Hector's father and mother: Priam and Hecuba plead him to abstain from fighting Achilles with convincing reasons. Hector decides that he rather face the Trojan townsmen and women having killed Achilles or being killed by Achilles. After a few moments of having approached Hector, he had ran away from Achilles. They ran all over the town of Priam, when Zeus- who was touched for Hector's predicament- pondered ,with the Gods, on weather they should revive him from death or leave him to die; since he had sacrificed for him many times. Athena then interjected, saying that Hector had brought this doom upon him long ago. Then Athena came down to convince Hector into combat with Achilles in the form of his brother Deiphobus. Both Apollo and Zeus ached for Hector in the battle against Achilles. Hector promises a pact that Achilles turned down. Showing his arrogance, Achilles hoped that Hector is a spearman for his sake. Athena helps out Achilles, Hector being oblivious to her being his brother. Lastly Hector says that Achilles has not fooled him into backing out of the battle with his words.
What I understood was that Achilles' friend was killed by the Trojans. The one that was mainly responsible for this was Hector so Achilles decided to get revenge. When Hector goes to fight his parents tell him to surrender. It becomes too late and Achilles charges at him and this begings the battle.
Achilles did not want to fight in the war. He still had problems with Agamemnon even though he apologized to him. What i interpreted from the readin was that the only reason why Achilles took part in the war was because his friend was killed by the Trojans. Him fighting against them was his way of getting revenge. He wants to fight a man named Hector who has tried pleading with him to back out of the battle. It does not work and Hector soon realizes that he will face Archilles in battle no matter what words are said to him.
In Book 22 Agamemnon apologizes to Achilles but he refused to take it, he decided not to return to battle with him. Achilles is now battling his own war, at this point, with Hector. Achilles seeks vengence for the killing of his friend. Achilles currently has his mother, Hera on his side and now the Gods/Goddesses are truely getting too involved; because of the help Achilles has from Hera it shows that Hector is more than likely to lose. In the end this comes to show that, like I had said, the Gods/Goddesses are way too invovled in making/affecting decisions for the mortals or the decisions the mortals make.
what I got from reading this very astounding story whas that Achilles didnt want to go to war because he was upset with Agammemnon. Agammemnon apologized but Achilles didnt want to take it because he had a war to fight with Hector.
In Book 22, from what I understoud from the reading, Achilles did not want to fight for Agamemnon. Although Agamemnon offered an apology, Achilles refused and decided not to go into battle for Agamemnon. But when his best friend Patroclus is killed by Hecter, Achilles takes it personally and decided to go 'personally' battle Hecter.
What i got from the reading was that Archilles dropped out of the war; he was still angry with Agamemnon for taking his girls and he did not want ot fight along side with him. Because he was no longer in the war he had went to his mother and asked her to have the Trojans win the war. His close friend then joined war on the Greeks side and was killed by a man named Hector. After Hector killed his friend he stripped him of his armor, which is very disrespectful in the eyes of the Greek. Achilles was so enraged by this act that he began chacing Hector around the town trying to kill him. He was motivated by his anger to do this.
What I Have Got From Reading This Section Of The Story Was, Achilles continues to mourn for Patroclus, lying awake at night and filling time comfort by heaping abuse on Hector's body. In This Second, Homer finally mentions the cause of Athena's and Hera's intense hatred for Troy. It was because Paris chose Aphrodite in a beauty contest between the three goddesses because Aphrodite bribed him with the gift of Helen. Also, Achilles was able to make the great leap of empathy. He sees his own father in the old king, and he suddenly understands the anguish that he has caused for the old man and others like him, a mourning father for every man that he has killed. Then At the End Akhilleus, return Hector's body and they had a funeral for Hector.
I thought we were supposed to read Book 24 over the weekend, so I wrote about it in my last post -___-
So, as I said before, Achilles is still angry after killing Hector. He refuses to return his body to the Trojans, which is a HUGE slap in the face to them. Achilles treats Hector's body horribly and has absolutely no respect for it. He even drags Hector's body around Patroclus' burial site, which shows that Achilles is really acting on his emotions. After a couple days or something King Priam goes to Achilles' tent(?), with the protection of the gods, and begs for his son's body. He's so upset that doesn't get angry or anything at Achilles. KPriam eventually gets Hector's body back and brings it into Troy. Yay!
Poor Priam in chapter 24 is really courages and decides to plead for the body of his beloved son Hector. Achilles who is still mad at Hector(that is ridiculous especially because he is dead) refuses to return the body until Zeus forces his hand. Priam goes to Achilles' camp with the help of Hermes. Priam falls to the knees of Achilles and talks with him until he finally gives in. The point in this chapter that surprised me the most was that Achilles was short tempered towards Priam and several times says that he might have to kill him. Finally the body of Hector returns home and the reader can tell that Hector was a beloved person by all his people. We also learn about how Hector himself treated Helen( who was the cause of the war and in some way the cause of Hector's demise).
THANKS ASHLEYYY ! In the reading of Book 24 Achillies is still depressed about the fact that Patroclus is dead. He treads Hector's lifeless body like a rag doll and drags it around the tomb of Patroclus. Achilies is refusing to give the Trogans Hecotr's body. King Priam goes to Achilies' tent ( like Mich says ...)and asks for his sons body, but then leaves. The Trojans get Hector's body back and the women cry when they see him. They then prepair the funeral to burn the body.
In Chapter 24 Achilles is still sad that patroclus is dead.I feel bad that Achilles is still mourning but i think he went a little overboard with hectors body.He oded he dragged his body and cut his ankles .But no he didnt stop there he let animals attack the body. But Priam is able to get Hectors body back by a ransom.Priam goes to Achilles tent and they negotiate.Hectors people really cared about him you cant tell by what is said in the story. The people are crying and going crazy when they see the lifeless body.A funeral is starting to get organized.
In chapter 24 Hectors father, King Priam goes back with the hope of getting his sons body back. He begs on his knees to Achilles for the body. Achilles is still angered at hector and doesn't want to give the body back to his father. He tormented Hectors body and I think the least he can do is give the body back.So at one point finally he fives the body back. Priam had the gods with him which helped him get what he wanted. Everyone was happy since they loved and respected hector and mourned for him.
In book 24, Priam goes, with the help of Hermes, to speak to Achilles. When he got to Achilles, Priam dropped to his knees and kissed Achilles's hand and began begging the warrior for his dead son's body back. Along with valuable ransoms, he asked Achilles to have compassion and to give Hector back so that he could give his son a proper burial. Achilles decided to do the right thing and give back Hector, cleaned and anointed. After the agreement that Hector would be given back, Achilles invited Priam to stay and eat and after they eat, Priam spends the night outside in the forecourt. Before they go to sleep, Achilles promises Priam that there won't be battle so that the Trojans can have as long as they need to bury and mourn Hector. Once everyone is asleep, Hermes guides Priam along with Hector's body home to Troy. When they reach the city, everything is set up for Hector's funeral and everyone begins to mourn him. They all grieved; his father, his mother, his wife, and even Helen.
Well in book 24, Hector's dad Priam receives help from Hermes that tell him he should go to Achilles and supplicate him to give his son's body back. Priam goes into the camp to speak to Achilles by receiving help from Hermes. once he's there Achilles questions, and threatens Priam. Achilles doesn't want Priam to see Hectors body in the poor conditions that it is and so he orders for it to be bathed and dressed. He then orders that a bed is made for Priam to sleep because he was not able to rest after the daeth of his son and also beacuse it has not receive proper burial. Achilles finally agreed to give the Trojans Hector's body back. Achilles gave Priam eleven days until the war start for Hector's funeral to be prepare.
Andromache fears that her son will die in a young age because of his fathers death. Helen laments Hectors death because he was the only Trojan that treated her with respect while some other people flouted her.
A lot happens in book 24. We see King Priam set out to find Achilles. When he goes to Achilles, he throws himself on the ground and begs on his knees for his son's body. Achilles was angry with Hector although he was already dead, but eventually decided to give the Trojans Hector's body to be given a proper burial. King Priam stays to share a meal with Achilles. After, King Priam leaves with Hector's body accompanied by Achilles. They had come to an agreement in which there wouldn't be a battle so the Trojans could have time to grieve. At the funeral, Hector's people mourned and cried for their beloved leader.
In Book 24, Achilles still has not returned the corpse of Hector. Zeus demands that he return the body to Priam for a proper burial. Priam goes to the Achaean camp, escorted by Hermes, to pray to Achilles to give back his son. Priam kneels and kisses Achilles. In his plea to get his son, Priam reminds Achilles of how his father was. They both became very emotional, Achilles because of his father and Patroclus. Achilles admitts to Priam that in time he was going to give Hector's body back in his own time, but he realized that Priam was guided there by Zeus. Eventually the body of Hector is returned to his father and back into Troy. When the people of Troy went to see Hector's body being escorted, they all groaned and wepted. Andromache predicts that she and her son will be taken by the Achaeans because Hector is no longer there to protect them. King Priam commanded the Trojans to set up for the funeral. In the end, they buried Hector and returned home.
In book 24 Priam and Hermes go to speak with Achilles. When Priam is with Achilles he drops to his knees and kisses Achilles and begs for his son's body. Achilles then decides to give back Hector's body clean and anointed. After that Achilles invites Priam to stay and eat with him. Priam stays in the forecourt. Before they go to sleep Achilles promises Priam that there will not be a war so that they can all have the time that they need to bury Hector. Priam then returns to Troy with Hectors body with the help of Hermes. Everyone then begins to mourn him.
The prologue of Book 24 explains the funeral of Patroclus, Achilles' best friend, where athletic contests are held. The Greeks and the Trojans believed that funeral rites were necessary for the soul of the deceased to find rest. Zeus becomes offended by the way Achilles treated Hector's body, so he ordered him to give his body to Priam.
The Old King Priam is guided by Hermes, the Wayfinder, to Achilles' quarters. There Priam kneels before Achilles, kissing his knees. He reminds him of his dear father back in his homeland-like the Wayfinder told him to do- in order to touch his heart. With the thought of his father, and of Patroclus, Achilles began to weep, as did Priam. Then he composed himself, and told Priam that he had intended on giving Hector back. He also mentioned that his mother had informed him that Priam was on his way to his quarters with someone. After this, Achilles had his women slaves clean Hector's body in order to avoid getting Priam angered and killed by himself. Soon after dinner came and then sleep- outside where an Achaean might not see and inform Agamemnon, delaying the funeral. Hermes came to warn Priam, mid-slumber, that he should leave before Agamemnon hears of where he was. So off they went into Troy, where upon arriving Cassandra saw and woke the town. Nine days of labor for the funeral passed. At the tenth day Hector's body was burned. Lastly came the twelfth day, when the Trojans preformed the funeral rites of Hector-tamer of horses- while some looked out for anticipated Achaean attacks.
When I read Book 24 , It is mostly about Hector's funeral. Achilles still has not returned the body of Hector to his family. Priam goes to Achilles and asks for it. He even offers to give him gifts in return. Achilles is a bit hard-headed at first, but he finally gives in. When Priam visits Achilles place, he sees Bryseis which was the girl that Agamemnon returned back to Achilles. Achilles lets Priam sleep outside and tells him that he can see his son's body in the morning. Priam says that he will need about twelve days for the whole funeral process. Achilees must hold his army until the funeral is over with. Hector's wife is worried about her son. She feels that he will have a horrible life because of how many people her husband killed. They might take revenge against Hector's son.
In book 24, Achilles is still upset even after killing Hector and treating his body with such a disrespect. Achilles is too stubborn and angered to return Hector's body to the Trojans. Achilles does everything from dragging his body to tearing it apart. Priam ,of course being Hector's father, is still mourning over his son that he decides to beg and kiss Achilles for his son's body back. Achilles at first didn't want to give it up but eventually he did and Priam took his son's corpse to Troy.
While reading Book 24 of the Iliad, One think i thought that was interesting was that Achilles gave the body of Hector back but only becase he saw that the gods were on priam's side. One thing i thought about while reading is that hector was an unfortunate soul because he was a good man who killed the wrong person. If Achilles had killed Agamemnon i don't think he would be remembered the same way hector was remembered by his people, Achamade, hecuba, and priam.
In Book 24, After killing Hector, Achilles humiliates Hectors dead body and does not return Hectors Body to his family. After pleading with Achilliam King Priam is able to convince Achilles to return Hector's body.
What I understood from the reading was that king priam went where achilles lived and went to ask if he could have his son hector body so that way they can give him a proper burial. Then king priam asked to hold the war for 12 days, and so they were able to do the funeral. Idk, thats what I understood -_-
Achilles gave the body back because the Gods were on King Priams side. King priam mourns over his body evan after it was returned to him. I feel like it is his favorite son out of all that were killed. i also think hectors son will have a bad life because of all the people hector has killed and they will want to take revenge on his son.
After reading book 24 i understood that after achilles kills he does not treat his body with respect. he did not want to return hectors body which was considered disrespectful.
In book 24, Achilles is still mad after killing Hector and disrespecting him and his family. Achilles is so mad that he doesnt want to return Hectors body back to the Trojans. Achilles does completly destroies Hectors body. At the end Achilles gives the body back because the Gods are in King Priam's side.
Book 24 talked about Hector's funeral. Achilles did not return Hector's body to his family. Priam went to Achilles and tried to get Hector's body. He offered to give him the gifts in return but Achilles still did not want to return Hector's body. Achilles was being rather stubborn in the beggining, but at the end he finally decided to return Hector's body. Priam visits Achilles, and sees Bryseis. Achilles lets Priam sleep outside and he tells him he can see his son's body in the morning. Priam says that the funeral will be about 12 days. Achilles had to hold his army until the funeral was over with. Hector's wife was worried that their son no longer had a father. She thinks that he's son's life will not be good because all the people his father killed. She think's that they might get revenge from her son and he would get hurt.
what i could understand from the reading, was that at first, Achille did not want to go to battle because he is still upset with Amomnon. However, they killed one of his good friend, so he decided to go to battle.

ReplyDeleteBefore reading aboutbook 22we learned that Achilles is no longer fighting in the Greek side with Agamemnon.
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see how he dies.
ReplyDelete"idk if this is right?" (ndhs student, all his/her life) what i could comprehend was that Achilles only went to war to fight against Hector because Hector killed one of his good friends. At first Achilles didn’t want to go because he was mad at Agamemnon, But when Hector killed his friend he wanted to get him back. kill him with his dager put it into his heart as all the blood drips onto his hands and twist is as if it were a killshot untill he dies and enjoy every moment.
ReplyDeleteIn the movie i like when achilles drags his body through the sand on his chariot. lol
"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Glly5JA5h0" watched it 296,032 times
ReplyDeleteWell the story was a bit confusion, what I understand is that the war started because Hector killed a close friedn of Achilles.
ReplyDeleteI feel that it was about revenge thats what Achilles wanted. But I could use some clarification on it to understand it a little more...

ReplyDeleteIn the prologue ,of 'Book 22: Desolation Before Troy,' Agamemnon apologizes to Achilles but he refuses his gifts- showing his prides once again- and decides not the return to battle. Then Patroclus gains permission from Achilles to rejoin the fighting. Hector kills Achilles' best friend-Patroclus- which makes him return to battle.
ReplyDeleteAchilles is going to kill Hector, in order to avenge his best friend.
ReplyDeleteAchilles did not want to fight in the war.
ReplyDeleteIn Book 22 Agamemnon apologizes to Achilles but he refused to take it, he decided not to return to battle with him.
ReplyDeletewhat I got from reading this very astounding story whas that Achilles didnt want to go to war because he was upset with Agammemnon. Agammemnon apologized but Achilles didnt want to take it because he had a war to fight with Hector.
ReplyDeleteIn Book 22, from what I understoud from the reading, Achilles did not want to fight for Agamemnon. Although Agamemnon offered an apology, Achilles refused and decided not to go into battle for Agamemnon. But when his best friend Patroclus is killed by Hecter, Achilles takes it personally and decided to go 'personally' battle Hecter.
ReplyDeleteWhat i got from the reading was that Archilles dropped out of the war; he was still angry with Agamemnon for taking his girls and he did not want ot fight along side with him.
ReplyDeleteDo we blog about the reading of book 24 (pg.158-170) in this one?
ReplyDelete@Monica, Yes.
ReplyDeleteBlog here for the new homework :)
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Mrs. Breen
ReplyDeleteI thought we were supposed to read Book 24 over the weekend, so I wrote about it in my last post -___-
ReplyDeleteSo, as I said before, Achilles is still angry after killing Hector.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS ASHLEYYY !
ReplyDeleteIn the reading of Book 24 Achillies is still depressed about the fact that Patroclus is dead.

ReplyDeleteIn Chapter 24 Achilles is still sad that patroclus is dead.I feel bad that Achilles is still mourning but i think he went a little overboard with hectors body.He oded he dragged his body and cut his ankles .But no he didnt stop there he let animals attack the body. But Priam is able to get Hectors body back by a ransom.Priam goes to Achilles tent and they negotiate.Hectors people really cared about him you cant tell by what is said in the story. The people are crying and going crazy when they see the lifeless body.A funeral is starting to get organized.
ReplyDeleteIn chapter 24 Hectors father, King Priam goes back with the hope of getting his sons body back.
ReplyDeleteIn book 24, Priam goes, with the help of Hermes, to speak to Achilles.
ReplyDeleteWell in book 24, Hector's dad Priam receives help from Hermes that tell him he should go to Achilles and supplicate him to give his son's body back.
ReplyDeleteAndromache fears that her son will die in a young age because of his fathers death.
ReplyDeleteIn Book 24, Achilles still has not returned the corpse of Hector.
ReplyDeleteIn book 24 Priam and Hermes go to speak with Achilles.

ReplyDeleteThe prologue of Book 24 explains the funeral of Patroclus, Achilles' best friend, where athletic contests are held. The Greeks and the Trojans believed that funeral rites were necessary for the soul of the deceased to find rest. Zeus becomes offended by the way Achilles treated Hector's body, so he ordered him to give his body to Priam.
ReplyDeleteThe Old King Priam is guided by Hermes, the Wayfinder, to Achilles' quarters.
ReplyDeleteIn book 24, Achilles is still upset even after killing Hector and treating his body with such a disrespect.
ReplyDeleteWhile reading Book 24 of the Iliad, One think i thought that was interesting was that Achilles gave the body of Hector back but only becase he saw that the gods were on priam's side. One thing i thought about while reading is that hector was an unfortunate soul because he was a good man who killed the wrong person. If Achilles had killed Agamemnon i don't think he would be remembered the same way hector was remembered by his people, Achamade, hecuba, and priam.
ReplyDeleteIn Book 24, After killing Hector, Achilles humiliates Hectors dead body and does not return Hectors Body to his family. After pleading with Achilliam King Priam is able to convince Achilles to return Hector's body.
ReplyDeleteWhat I understood from the reading was that king priam went where achilles lived and went to ask if he could have his son hector body so that way they can give him a proper burial. Then king priam asked to hold the war for 12 days, and so they were able to do the funeral. Idk, thats what I understood -_-
ReplyDeleteAchilles gave the body back because the Gods were on King Priams side. King priam mourns over his body evan after it was returned to him. I feel like it is his favorite son out of all that were killed. i also think hectors son will have a bad life because of all the people hector has killed and they will want to take revenge on his son.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading book 24 i understood that after achilles kills he does not treat his body with respect. he did not want to return hectors body which was considered disrespectful.
ReplyDeleteIn book 24, Achilles is still mad after killing Hector and disrespecting him and his family. Achilles is so mad that he doesnt want to return Hectors body back to the Trojans. Achilles does completly destroies Hectors body. At the end Achilles gives the body back because the Gods are in King Priam's side.
ReplyDeleteBook 24 talked about Hector's funeral.
