I don't really understand the reading, I just know that there is a lot of fighting going on but what is evident is how prideful Achilles is and how he will stop at nothing to avenge his lost troops.
i understood the reading achilles joins the war again because his best friend Patroclus is killed by hector with the help of apollo. when Achilles heres of this he is overcome with grief and rage. then Achilles goes to trojan and hector is outside the walls and hectors mother and father beg him not to fight Achilles and to come inside the walls because Achiiles is stronger than him. when Achilles got close to him hector begain to tremble and ran leaving the gates of trojan behind. then Athena pretended to be Deiphobus one of hectors brothers and said to hector that they both will fight Achilles with no holding back. Hector belived this and challenged Achilles to fight. they begain to fight and when hector threw his spear at Achilles and it rebounded of his shield. then hector with no other weapon he called for Deiphobus asking for a long spear no one responed and he noticed that Deiphobus was safe behind the walls he relized the truth that that was the end. i think that is all that happened up to page 151
In the beginning achilles is being put down by apollo because its market no sense running after a god. After apollo and achilles finish argung achilles is ready to take on Hector. Priam tries to stop his son but nothing seems to work. Priam wants his son to live so he can spoil him because he wasn't able to that for his other two sons that passed away. Even hectors mother tries to stop hector because she knows how the battle is going to end. Hector decides that he could step down but he would be viewed differently by many people . He decides to go up against achilles but as soon as he comes closer Hector starts to chicken out.
Book 22: I also found all of the reading very confusing, and there was alot of fighting going on. Hector ended up dying and Achilles brought him to earth infront of his friends, lords and captiens. Achilles wanted to be allowed to go to the city to access the Achaean ships. Also Hectors wife had no idea that he had died and she prepared a bath for him and everything, but when she discovered that he had died she broke down. Book 24: Hermes left to Olympus and found Achilles in Zeus chair. And pretty much this book had all to do with the ranks of the gods and how they are places in there own society. Depending on who your parents were you had a different status and placethen everyone else. Achilles seems to have more power and authority and booses everyonwe around.
It was a bit difficult to understand the reading... but this is basically what I captured, Achilles rejoins the war after his best friend is killed. Achilles goes straight after Hector of troy king Priam's son. King Priam and his wife see Achilles coming from far and plead to Hector to flee because Achilles will kill him, but Hector does not back down. Hector ran around the city three times with Achilles behind him. They disputed about killing each other and the goddess Athena interferes as well as Apollo and Zeus.
What I understood from the reading was that achilles is a mad guy and runnning after hector. Also achilles decides to join the war. He asks hector to flee or achilles will kill him and he dose not do so. they killed eachother and atehna, zeus, apollo jump in. *Can Someone Help Me With the end
Last comment is makes not mar ket * zeus feels sorry for hector because he is begin chased by achilles. Athena begs her father to end hector's suffering (that's what I got from the reading )but he tells her to take matters into her own hands. So she decides to trick hector by disguising herself as hectors brother, deiphobus. She tricks hector into fighting achilles.
This reading to me was very confusing in a way. achilles was running after hector or some other guy there.they ran through the city about three times. they wanted to kill each other but neither could reach their goal because athena apollo and zeus jump in the small quarrel.
All i understood from the reading was that their was a little fight between Achilles and Hector. Achilles was chasing after hector and they wanted to kill each other until some other people jumped in.
From the reading Athena convinces Hector that he can take Achilles. Then him and Achilles get in a fight. Then hector finds out that the gods betrayed him and he gets killed by Achilles. Achilles ties Hector’s body to his chariot and drags it through the dirt. Hectors father begs Achilles for hectors body and he finally gives it to him. Then I didn’t understand anything after that.
From my understanding Achilles is no longer part of the war. Its seems to me that Achiiles has som sort of grudge toward the greek God Apollo. Apollo wants Hector to right Achilles.I also understood that The reason that Achiller rejoined th was was because his bestfriend Patroclus was killed by Hector so Achilles joins the war again to get revenge on Hector and Apollo due to the fact that Apollo helped Hector kill achilles bestfriend. Then Achilles and Hector were chasing after each other through the town. Also Athena defend Achilles , through out the story. This was my full understanding , and just like every one said i really didnt understand some parts to the story but i was able to understand the over all view of what was going on.
So what i understood from the reading was that Achilles was chasing Apollo. He runs around the city three times, with Achilles at the bottom. Zeus places Achilles and Hector on a golden scale and realizes that Hectors goes down. Hector dies and is stabbed.Andromache collapses.
Honestly, I don't understand this reading -_-.. I know there's a lot of fighting going on and disagreement. Achilles and Hector are trying to fight, but its hard for them because people keep getting in there way. Hector ends up dying and Achilles gains more power throughout everything. Overall, they were just talking about how the whole war took place / happened.
As I read the reading, I understood that Achilles refuses to join the war but a death occurred that made him rejoin the war. Also in the reading I understood how Hector wants to beat Achilles in the war. Someone tries convincing Hector into being in the Trojan side. Also it describes how Achilles tries to kill Hector but when he goes to stab him Hector ducks it.
I understood in this reading that Hector trajan leeader killed Achilles his best friend patroclus in battle. Achilles want to kill hector because of what he did to his friend. Achilles is more powerful and Hector parents tell him to not fight with him because Achilles could kill him.
Honestly Im so lost in this class with these stories. From what I understand from the story Patroclus was killed by Hector and that lead to Achilles to join the war. Througout the story they talk about the war. Achiles tries to kill Hector because he hates him also in the story.
What i understood was that Apollo was sort of calling out Achilles ? Then Achilles ran to Hector & Priam told him to not fight Achilles because he would end up killing him because of his strength. Then Hector starts talking about how he fell into a trap & is now and he's basically paying for his foolish pride. Achilles kills Hector . & Athena & Zeus start blabbing on about something .. O_o
From what i understood, there's a fight between Achilles and Hector. Achilles also refuses to join the war. At the end of the fight, Hector ends up dieing and Achilles feelngs like he has accomplished something and he feels he has gained strength. Other than that, there's war going on throughout the story.
( I had posted my original blog comment in the wrong class...soooo im fixing it now-don't mark it late =] )
Achilles did not want to fight in the war. He still had problems with Agamemnon even though he apologized to him. What i interpreted from the readin was that the only reason why Achilles took part in the war was because his friend was killed by the Trojans. Him fighting against them was his way of getting revenge. He wants to fight a man named Hector who has tried pleading with him to back out of the battle. It does not work and Hector soon realizes that he will face Archilles in battle no matter what words are said to him.
So what I understood was that archilles joined the war because of the death of his friend. Hector and Archilles fight outside the walls of Troy but the Gods get involved. My question is why did the gods stop the fight?
Im not sure if we comment on the reading for pg 158-170 here, so ill just do it here.
I believe this part of the Illiad was more understandable and clear. I understood that Achillies didnt want to give Hector's body back to Priam for burial. Zeus got mad at Achillies and demanded Achillies to give it back. As Achillies is giving the body back, Priam ( father of Hector)is sad and devastated due to the death of his son Hector. Achillies and Priam both shed tears because of the death of Achillies' best friend and Hector. Achillies treats Hectors body with respect and showers and annoints him. Also Achillies and Priam plan the burial for Hector.
Introduction: After Archilles kills Hector he is so engraged that he does not want to return Hector's body back to his people; this is a form of disrespect to the Greeks and with no proper burial, the soul of the dead person will not find peace. When Zues learns of Archilles harsh handle with Hector's body he demands that he returns it back to Hector's father. Hector's father is escorted to the Greek camp by the God Hermes who is disguised as a young man, who is holding a ransom for his son's body. __
Hermes the God met up with Hector's father, he was going to acompany him to get Priam's son's body back from Archilles but then said that it would be "to compromise an immortal's dignity" if he were to acompany him. Although Hermes could not visit Archilles with Hecto's father he told the man what to do; "Go take his knees, and make your supplication: invoke his father, his mother, and his child; pray that his heart be touched, that he be reconciled." After hearing what the God told him Priam then goes to Archilles and nelt down at his feet and "kissed the hands of the wrath that killed his son". This action shocks the villiage's people and Archilles himself. Priam does as Hermes had told him. He talks to Archilles and talks about Zues. He tries to guilt Archilles into giving Hector's body back. He tries to make him pitty him. after Archilles got upset that the Gods had helped Priam get into the camp he released Hector's body.
what its pretty much about is Archilles killing hector and him not wanting to reutrn his body to the greeks which is a sign of disrespect. Then Zeus orders him to return Hector'body to his father. Then they made a respectful burial for Hector. What i dont understand is that why it had to take Zeus for Archilles to return the body to the hectors father? why didnt he want to return it in the first place?
Well what I understood is that Archilles killed Hector and didnt return the body back. He was so enraged that he would tie up Hector to the horses and drag him around his friends grave. The gods didnt approve of this so Priam was lead by Hermes to were Hector was to trade Hector's body for the treasures he was bringing with him.
From what I read in the story, Apollo tries to persuade Zeus to tell Achilles to return hectors body to his family for a ransom. He told Achilles to have pity on him and to remember his own father. Priam offered him many gifts and told him to take it so Hector can have a proper burial. Achilles finally returned the body and they suspended the war for 11 days in mourning for Hectors death. After that they had supper and they slept outside, but Hermes warns him that they shouldn’t stay with the enemies, so they took Hectors body and went back to Troy. All of Troy mourned Hectors death and prepared to battle on the 12ft day
Okay, so in the story i read that Achillies kills hector, and he isnt able to return the body for his own satisfaction. We notice that Achillies is not a good person. Because the people in Hectors side become mad because his body is out they ask for Achillies to return the body to them. They did the burial for Hector. Since Archillies is becoming more hard headed they have to trade the body with treasures. Which reminds us of Agammemnon taking Achillies wife.
From what I read Achilles did not want to return Hector' s body to king priam . Zeus forced him to give back the body.Priam was brought to the greek camp by Hermes. Hermes let king Priam know his duty was over and the best thing for him to do is get on his knees and beg for his son' s body. Priam walked pass the others to reach Achilles. He knelt down and kissed Achilles' hand. After priam begged and begged Achilles felt some grief. Both Achilles and Priam wepted over a best friend and son. Priam had suffered a great amount but Achilles described his heart as if it was made of iron. He knew though that crying wouldn't solve none of they're problems . I was confused when Achilles started talking about urns and how onee was good and the other evil. Can someone clarify that for me?
Based on what i read, the fight is over. Achilles wins and doesnt want to give Hector's body to his family like he promised. Zues then speaks to Achilles and tells him to return the body. Achilles and Priam then plan Hector's burial and start respecting Hector's body..
I completely forgot to do this blog until i triple checked my syllabus . I KNEW I FINISHED MY HOMEWORK TOO QUICK ! Anywho . What i understood from the reading was that Priam went up to Achilles right after Achilles had dinner with two of his guards, and spoke to him about how Peleus, his father, may go through whatever he goes through but in the end he knows that Achilles is alive; Priam gets the news his son is dead. Priam was begging for Hector's body back . Achilles starts thinking about his father and then both the King & Achilles start crying. After long a long conversation, Achilles & Priam plan Hector's burial and Hector is given the proper burial .
What i read about was that the fight between Achilles and Hector is over. Achilles doesn't want to return Hector's body. Its pretty disrespectful because it means alot to the greeks. Your supposed to give the gods proper burial and achilles didnt want that.
What I understood about the reading was the disrespect in Achilles as to not wanting to return Hector's body. I believe he felt that way because he was so angry, upset, and so heartless that he wanted Hector to suffer even after he was dead. Achilles does end up returning Hector's body to Hector's father but in my opinion he only did this in fear of Zeus because Zeus had asked him to do so.
from what i understood from the reading is that king priam went where achilles lived and went to ask if he could have his son hector body. that way they can give him a proper burial. then king priam asked for 12 day to hold off the war so they are able to do the funneral
What I comprehend from this reading is that achilles is a bad boy and does not want to return hectors body back to his mother. He wanted to embarras him and his family. Piam is begging for Hectors body but achellis want to make him suffer. that is uncalled for what achilles is doing because he should just be a good sport and return Hectors body.
From what I understood from the reading, the scence starts off right after the dinner with Priam going up to Achilles with his two guards. They discuss Hector's death, and giving him a proper burial.
In book 24 i understood that Priam which is Hectors father goes to Achilles and begs Achilles to return Hectors body to him. Priam begs Achilles and offers him treasures.Achilles then gave Hectors body to his father Priam. The reason that Achilles gave Priam hectors body is because he felt bad. The after priam had Hectors body Priam was able to give Hector a proer barial
Achilles killed Hector after chasing him around and with the help of the goddess Athena. Achilles didn't abide to what Hector wanted after his death. Achilles did not return the body to King Priam and Queen Hucaba. Achilles drove Hector's body through the city instead while he was tied to a chariot. Achilles returned Hector to Priam because Zeus made him and Priam came up with a trade. Thats all i understood. (Sorry for the lateness)
I don't really understand the reading, I just know that there is a lot of fighting going on but what is evident is how prideful Achilles is and how he will stop at nothing to avenge his lost troops.
